K-pop group members may enlist into army all together: Korean daily

K-pop megastar BTS runs the risk of losing one of its seven members next year as Jin cannot delay his military conscription beyond next June. At the age of 27, Jin is the oldest member of the seven-member boy band.

As Korean men between the age of 18 and 28 should serve at least 21 months in the military, Jin seems ready for the inevitable. “As a Korean, it’s natural,” Jin said earlier 2019. “And, someday, when duty calls we’ll be ready to respond and do our best.”

However, Jin’s bandmates try not to lose him. Because Jin cannot push his enlistment anymore, other members appear to think of serving the country all together although their deadlines are years away.

A Korean newspaper recently reported that BTS members had already discussed the issue. Citing an unidentified source in the music industry, the daily came up with the possibility of their joining the army at the same time.

Jungkook, who was born in 1997, can delay his conscription to 2026 while leader RM’s deadline for military enlistment is 2023.

The other four members of Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, and V would be required to go for military service between 2022 and 2024 at the latest.

But all the members are already older than 18, which means that they are allowed to enlist in the army any time in case they want.

Then, the popular K-pop act will have to go through a long hiatus of at least two years. Big Hit Entertainment, the agency of BTS, has yet to give any comments on that.

Male athletes and musicians can avoid a mandatory stint in the military if they win at such events as the Olympics and the Asian Games as well as an international art competition.

In comparison, winners of a pop music competition like the Billboard albums chart are not allowed to merit military exemption. As a result, BTS members have to serve their duty.
