Netmarble to launch online game featuring BTS soon

After months of hype, K-pop superstar BTS, also known as Bangtan Boys, plans to release a new album, “Map of the Soul: Persona,” midway through this month.

And the news seems to have excited not only BTS fans from around the world but also game publisher Netmarble, which is developing an online game featuring the group, “BTS World.”

First announced in 2018, BTS World is a simulation game featuring more than 10,000 photos and upside of 100 story videos of BTS members.

Netmarble is currently collaborating with BigHit Entertainment, the agency behind BTS, in creating the game. The former spent almost $190 million in 2018 to purchase a 25.71 percent stake in the latter.

The game is expected to use new BTS songs for its OST. Hence, the success of the boy band’s new songs will help secure success for the new game,” a Seoul analyst said.

It appears that Netmarble is hoping for the success of the new album as much as BTS fans.”

When contacted, a senior executive of the game firm said development of the game is now underway.

Our employees are working on BTS World with the aim of publishing it during the first half of the year,” a senior executive of Netmarble said.

Our employees are working on the game with the aim of publishing it during the first half of the year,” the executive said.

But he refused to elaborate, saying “we have yet to make detailed decisions about many things.”

Map of the Soul: Persona” is a studio album, and is the follow-up to the 2018 BTS albums, “Love Yourself: Tear” and “Love Yourself: Answer.”

It also precedes the band’s world tour that starts this May.

BTS has gained prominence worldwide – it became the first K-pop act to reach hit No. 1 on the Billboard Artist 100 last year. The seven-member band, which was formed in 2013, was the most re-tweeted celebrities in the world in 2017 and 2018.
