K-pop boy band keeps smashing records

The seven boys of K-pop sensation BTS continue to make history with their comeback album “Map of the Soul: Persona” by collecting 100 million views on YouTube in less than two days for the first time ever.

The septet’s music video for “Boy With Luv,” which is the title track of its mini album released on April 12, amassed 100 million views in just 37 hours and 37 minutes.

The boy band dethroned K-pop girl group Blackpink that reached the milestone in 62 hours with “Kill This Love,” which was dropped early this month.

“Boy With Luv,” which also tops charts in iTunes across the world, has become the 18th video of BTS to pass the 100 million threshold in the video-sharing platform and the pace gets faster.

To receive 100 million views, BTS needed 265 days with “Fire” in 2016 and 109 days with “Not Today” the next year.

And it took just 24 days in September 2017 when the K-pop colossus came up with “DNA” and nine days in May 2018 when “Fake Love” hit YouTube.

The previous record of the Bangtan Boys was four days with “Idol,” which was released in August 2018.

For the time being, the only candidates to renew the 38-hour record seems to be BTS members, otherwise known as the Bangtan Boys, themselves.

Observers point out that the next BTS album might get 100 million YouTube views on Day one, the exploit that no other artists have ever achieved in the history of the platform’s 14-year history.

Also of note is whether the band will be able to hit No. 1 on the Billboard chart as it did twice last year.
