Boy band's comeback album attracts YouTube viewers

The music video of “On,” Korean vocal group BTS’ new song, has surpassed 30 million views at YouTube in about 15 hours its release at 6 p.m. on February 21.

“On” is the title track of the seven-piece K-pop band’s comeback album “Map of the Soul: 7.”

It is a fast pace, but slower than the idol group’s previous album “Map of the Soul: Persona,” which was dropped on April 12 last year.

The music video of its lead track of “Boy with Luv” racked up 100 million views in less than 38 hours to shatter the record of the video-sharing platform.

The video clip for the BTS’ Billboard-topping song gathered 700 million YouTube views last week to become the second BTS song to reach the milestone.

The septet’s “DNA,” which was released on September 18, 2017, amassed more than 920 million views. It is expected to become the first BTS music video to top 1 billion views.

But the umbrella album of “On” broke the record of selling more than 1 million copies in just an hour after its release in South Korea alone.

According to Hanteo, a Korean outfit that compiles sales data on a real-time basis, the sales reached the 2 million mark under two hours.

As the number of pre-orders for the group’s fourth studio album was more than 4 million across the world, it is set to be another mega-hit album for BTS.
