'Idol' tops 600 million YouTube views

For so many YouTube creators across the world, it would be a great honor to have a video whose view count tops 1 million at the global video-sharing platform.

And here is a pop group, which has six video clips whose view count surpasses 600 million. It is K-pop superstar BTS, the world-renowned seven-piece boy group.

The band’s music video of “Idol,” the lead track of its “Love Yourself: Answer” dropped in 2018, reached the milestone on January 12, according to its label Big Hit Entertainment.

The other five video clips with more than 600 million view counts are “MIC Drop,” “Fire,” “DNA,” “Fake Love,” and “Boy With Luv.”

Among them, “DNA” is a leader as it has racked up more than 900 million YouTube views. The video is expected to top the 1,000 million mark in months to come.

No other K-pop artists have achieved such a feat.

BTS released its fourth studio album “Map of the Soul: Persona” last April to rock the globe. It carried out a global stadium tour attracting so many fans in Asia, Europe, America, and the Middle East.

The septet plans to come up with its new album titled “Map of the Soul: 7” late next month.

Big Hit Entertainment, the Seoul-based management company, debuted the idol group in 2013.

The seven members have remained intact over the past eight years, but one of its member, Jin, is required to serve the country midway through this year.

Hence, it remains to be seen whether the seven members will be able to perform throughout the year. Big Hit has yet to come up with a detailed stance and explanation about the sensitive case.
