Boy band leads top 10 physical albums list in the U.S.

People hardly open up their wallets to buy physical albums as more and more tend to stream. But some hardcore fans like ARMY did so during the first half of this year.

With its latest album “Map of the Soul: Persona," K-pop superstar BTS sold 312,000 copies in the United States during the first six months of 2019 to top Nielsen Music’s Top 10 Physical Albums chart.

The Nielsen report tracked sales from January 4 to June 20 in the U.S. market alone.

It is an outstanding exploit as the seven-track BTS album was dropped midway through April and is a non-English release.

Last year, the group took ninth place with its “Love Yourself: Tear.” Back then, the physical sales amounted to 132,000.

Came in at second this year was the Jonas Brothers’ Happiness Begins with sales of 308,000 copies followed by the Backstreet Boys’ DNA with 273,000 copies.

BTS also placed third in the report’s Top 5 Genre Artist chart.

After publishing the mini album, which also smashed several records of YouTube, the seven-piece boy band went through a globe-trotting stadium tour that encompassed three U.S. cities, Sao Paolo, London, and Paris.

This month, the idol group plays in Japan.

The septet, otherwise known as the Bangtan Boys, was formed in 2013 by BigHit Entertainment to become the world’s largest boy band.

Sometimes compared to The Beatles, BTS has very loyal fans across the world called ARMY, which is brief for Adorable Representative M.C. for Youth.
