Hanwha units will support Oshkosh Defense OMFV consortium
Hanwha Defense, South Korea’s leading defense company, said on Feb. 11 that its global subsidiaries cooperate to help win a mega-sized project in the United States.Its Australian unit announced its willingness to support the Oshkosh Defense consortium, which was recently selected to participate in the U.S. Army’s Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle (OMFV) program Concept Design Phase.Hanwha Defense USA is a part of the Oshkosh Defense OMFV consortium, whose concept takes advantage of the tried and tested capability of Hanwha’s Redback chassis.The Redback is Hanwha’s fifth-generation infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), which was designed specifically to meet the demanding requirements of Australia’s Land 400 Phase 3 project.The project refers to an $18 billion to $27 billion program geared toward procuring up to 450 IFVs in place of the Australian Army’s M113 armored personnel carriers.The Redback was shortlisted in 2019 as one of the final two candidates by the Australian military authority, which is expected to decide the final winner in 2022 after years of trials.Hanwha Defense Australia is also set to deliver a Redback to South Korea’s defense ministry to undergo a performance evaluation.“While the OMFV and Land 400 requirements are different in some elements, many of the advanced capabilities could apply to both programs,” Hanwha Defense Australia Managing Director Richard Cho said.“Along with our Australian suppliers, we’ve learned a lot about the capabilities associated with a modern Infantry Fighting Vehicle. We look forward to working with Oshkosh Defense and Hanwha Defense USA and collectively leverage those insights as part of the OMFV program.”키워드
