Hanwha Robotics joins hands with Wipro Infra

Hanwha Robotics recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Wipro Infrastructure Engineering to set up a sales and operations office in the world’s second-most populous country.

Hanwha Robotics is the robot business division of Hanwha Precision Machinery, which is an affiliate of Korea’s major conglomerate Hanwha Group.

Hanwha officials said that the bilateral partnership combines the core competencies between the two players – Hanwha’s cobot development capabilities and Winpro’s sales network in India.

A cobot refers to a collaborate robot, which is designed to physically interact with humans in a shared workspace, according to Wikipedia.

Through the alliance, Hanwha Robotics will sell its factory automation cobots to Wipro’s extensive customer base.

Wipro’s info-tech outsourcing service business is one of the world’s top three in the business with upside of 170,000 employees across the world.

During the ceremony to sign the MOU, Wipro CEO Pratik Kumar recognized Hanwha’s technological edge.

“I believe that cobots are the ideal solution for manufacturing automation in the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” he said. “We chose to work with Hanwha because it leads the cobot industry with its technological prowess and manufacturing edge.”

The contract between the two players marks the first time for a Korean cobot firm to partner with an Indian outfit.

“I’m proud that with this agreement, Hanwha’s cobot will be able to enter the Indian market,” Hanwha Vice President Ra Chong-sung said.

“We will continue investing in robotics while building a sales network across Europe, the Americas, and Asia to become a truly global cobot company.”

In March of 2017, Hanwha Robotics launched Korea’s first cobot: the HCR-5. Soon after, the HCR-3 and HCR-12 were added to extend the product line of cobots.

Hanwha Robotics is now expanding across China, Southeast Asia, Europe, the Americas, and India.
