Two powerhouses to cooperate for AI-powered driving

Hyundai Motor Group said on Nov. 10 that South Korea’s second-largest conglomerate would team up with NVIDIA in such areas as in-vehicle infotainment and AI-powered driving.

The two giants will work together across the board to come up with features to enrich user experience based on software and artificial intelligence through the NVIDIA Drive platform.

Hyundai has been working with NVIDIA over the past few years for its premium Genesis vehicles. And from now on, the two will collaborate for Hyundai’s entire fleet of vehicles.

For example, NVIDIA will enable Hyundai to churn out a new connected car operating system across its future models. The system will bring together a large amount of data created by the vehicle and its network of sensors.

“At Hyundai Motor Group, we’re committed to delivering greater value, safety, functionality, and enjoyment over the lifetime of the car,” Hyundai Senior Vice President Paul Choo said.

“The NVIDIA DRIVE platform is proven _ it is scalable, energy-efficient and has the performance to support our next generation of software-defined vehicles.”

NVIDIA Vice President Ali Kani also expressed his hype on the bilateral contract.

“NVIDIA brought consumer electronic functionality and a graphics-rich user interface to infotainment systems more than a decade ago,” Kani said.

“Now, we are once again transforming these systems through the power of AI, helping Hyundai Motor Group increase safety and value, along with enhancing customer satisfaction, throughout the lifetime of the vehicle.”

Hyundai Motor Group is composed of South Korea’s two largest automotive bands of Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors. Included in other affiliates are Hyundai Mobis and Hyundai E&C.

The former is Korea's leading car parts maker while the latter is the country's top builder.
