Goo Hara was found at her home: Police

Korean K-pop singer Goo Hara was found dead in her home in southern Seoul on Nov. 24, months after she was hospitalized in this May due to a suicide attempt.

The Gangnam Police Department said that it is investigating the cause of the 28-year-old musician’s death.

In her final Instagram message on late Nov. 23, she showed her selfie in bed with the caption of “Good night.”

Goo, a former member of K-pop girl group KARA, has been mired in a legal battle with her ex-boyfriend surnamed Choi about dating violence, which first grabbed headlines last year.

Early this year, Choi was indicted without detention for having injured Goo during a fight last September and threatening to leak a sex video.

In August, he received a prison sentence of 18 months, suspended for three years. The prosecution appealed the decision, and currently, the appellate court is reviewing the case.

Against this backdrop, Koo has reportedly suffered depression.

Her death came around 40 days after the death of Sulli, a former member of K-pop group f(x), who killed herself amid cyberbullying. The two were close friends.

When Sulli died last month, Goo promised that she will recover and thrive.

KARA debuted in 2007, and Koo joined the idol group the next year as one of its original members left the act.

KARA was one of the most successful K-pop girl groups, but it disbanded in 2016 as its agency’s contacts with KARA members expired.
