The Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI) announced on Aug. 9 that the state-backed agency and the Seoul metropolitan city would host a global biomedical conference next month.

The 2022 Seoul International Biomedical Conference (SIBC) will bring thousands of participants to the Seoul City Hall main building on Sept. 29.

Biomedical enterprises, hospitals, scholars, and investors from across the globe are expected to join the single-day event, which will be pitched both online and offline.

The sixth edition of the annual event will delve into the new future for the bio-industry in the post-coronavirus era to share the latest trends and information.

Yoshitake Maeda, who heads the BMS Asia-Pacific office, will deliver a keynote speech on the open innovation strategies of global pharmaceutical firms.

Three sessions will follow on the global bio-cluster after COVID-19, the digital revolution in the biomedical sectors, and scale-up & opportunity in the healthcare business.

In particular, Korea Investment Partners CEO Hwang Mahn-soon would head the third session as a moderator, which is about the growth opportunities in the healthcare industries.

Hwang is one of South Korea’s most famous venture capitalists in the bio and healthcare areas.

On top of the sessions, the KHIDI is scheduled to hold a demo day to bring together incubators, accelerators, and start-ups.

Start-ups, which were founded after 2013, can make applications between Aug. 10 and Sept. 15. Successful applicants will be able to pitch their business model on the sideline of the conference.

In addition, investment experts would offer consulting services to 30 start-ups on a first-come-first-served basis. They should apply between Aug. 10 and Sept. 8.

The KHIDI was established in 1999 with the goal of improving public health and helping the country’s healthcare corporations enhance their global competitiveness.

Currently, the outfit is headed by President Kwon Soon-man.
