Seoul-based company wins prestigious honor for 2 straight years

Philip Morris Korea (PMK) has been picked as the best employer of the year not only in Korea but also in the Asia-Pacific region for two consecutive years.

The Top Employers Institute announced on Jan. 25 the recipients of its annual recognition. Included in a handful of South Korean corporations is the Seoul-based PMK.

PMK garnered two certifications of the “Top Employer South Korea 2021” and “Top Employer Asia Pacific 2021” at the same time.

The certifications are issued for outfits, which continue their commitment to creating a better workplace.

Among the criteria are corporate strategy, roles of management, practices, workforce planning, talent acquisition, performance management, and leadership development, to name but a few.

Established in 1991, the Top Employers Institute has certified the most prominent companies in some 120 countries and regions with the goal of positively impacting more employees globally.

PMK Managing Director Paik Young-jay vowed that the company will continue to build the best working environment and corporate culture where employees can maximize their abilities.

“Our certified corporate culture and talent-based business strategy is the greatest asset for our company’s growth and vision. Our talented employees, professionals in science, sales, and manufacturing, all working together as a team, are the driving force behind PMK’s innovation that enables our company to be an industry leader,” he said.

“Additional to our people are the non-combustible products, which are a better option for adults who would otherwise continue to smoke, that emit on average 95 percent lower levels of harmful chemicals compared to cigarettes.”

PMK said that it could garner the honor of the top employer after going through a rigorous certification process whose criteria included flexible working arrangements during the virus pandemic.

Adding credibility to the results, global consulting firm Binder Dijker Otte carried out an external audit of the entire certification process, system, and data.

Praveen Upadhyay, who takes charge of PMK’s people and culture division, said that the certification is significant because it checks whether a company creates a people-centric corporate culture, which is necessary to become a more consumer-oriented organization.

“We strongly believe in acquiring, developing and retaining talent, and creating a desirable corporate culture,” he said.

“The system we have championed provides infinite opportunities for employee experience, making our people the engine that drives the growth of our business.”
