Fans expect BTS will continue even after Jin's enlistment

It seems that K-pop superstar BTS has no other option but to lose its member Jin for a while because he has to go to the military midway through next year. Then, what will happen to the seven-piece boy band?

Some worry that the boy group will disband. But most expect that the Korean act will continue to perform even after Jin leaves for some two years due to his military duty.

That’s how BTS fans predict in Quora, a question-and-answer website. And there are precedents of other K-pop acts like Super Junior or SHINHWA did.

“So far, most boy groups who enlisted in the military did not immediately disband. They either returned with strong, successful comebacks or pursued solo careers during the members’ enlistment,” a netizen said.

“Most likely, BTS will perform more solo acts and release music in small groups once Jin enlists. They’re aware that ARMYs would feel incomplete if BTS made a comeback without Jin.”

Short for Adorable Representative M.C. for Youth, ARMY refers to the loyal fans of BTS.

“When Jin does enlist, the group will most likely just continue to promote without him until he can come back and the same will happen for all other members,” another said.

“It’s impossible to know the future unless they actually tell us their plans, but it seems like all seven members would all want to quietly and quickly complete their military service and come back as soon as they can.”

In Korea, men between the age of 18 and 28 should serve at least 21 months in the military.

This means that Jin cannot delay his conscription beyond next year. Born in 1992, he is the oldest member of the idol group.

In comparison, Jungkook can delay his conscription to as late as 2026 while leader RM’s deadline for military enlistment is 2023.

The other four members of Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, and V would be required to go for military service between 2022 and 2024 at the latest.
