Doona!, Strong Girl Nam-soon gain popularity
Two South Korean drama involving unique female characters were included in the Netflix global charts as of Oct. 26, according to FlixPatrol, which tracks streaming data.They are Doona!, which ranked No. 6 after its debut last week, and Strong Girl Nam-soon, which was released early this month to be positioned at 10th place.The former depicts a college student, who navigates life and school while dealing with a unique situation where he is living with a beautiful former K-pop sensation.The nine-part webtoon adaptation, which was directed by Lee Jung-hyo, topped the list in seven countries of Hong-Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Qatar, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan.It stars Bae Suzy, a former member of the K-pop girl group Miss A, and a Korean actor-model Yang Se-jong. Studio Dragon, an affiliate of entertainment company CJ ENM, produced the series.“The drama is more about emotions than narrative. So you can enjoy it as much as you can feel it,” Director Lee said in an interview disclosed by Netflix. “I hope this becomes a show that I bookmark and watch whenever I think of it.”He directed a 2019-2020 romantic comedy Crash Landing on You, which was a big hit. Its main streaming website in China crashed on the night when the final episode was aired because of the huge number of users.Strong Girl Nam-soon shows a young woman gifted with superhuman power, who returns to Korea from Mongolia to find her birth family.
