‘The Bequeathed’ set to debut later this week
South Korea's Kakao Entertainment strives to keep chalking up notable successes with animation adaptations of the enteretainment company's representative webtoons.
‘The Bequeathed’ is scheduled to debut globally as the popular Kakao webtoon makes a leap to Netflix.
Part 1 already achieved remarkable success on Kakao Page and Kakao Webtoon in Korea from Nov. 27.
Both Part 2 and the Netflix debut are scheduled to reach screens on January 19.
The Netflix series is directed by Yeon Sang-ho, renowned for his work such as ‘Train to Busan,’ ‘Peninsula,’ and ‘Hellbound.’
The crime thriller series also features a star-studded cast, while masterfully blending Korean themes. The focus is on the main character Yoon Seo-ha who, after the sudden death of her uncle, inherits some land in the countryside that is used as her family’s graveyard.
As the story unfolds, a series of sinister events and murders reveal shocking truths about the family and their graveyard.
After the webtoon Part 2 and the Netflix series unfold on Jan. 19, Kakao said that the saga would expand its reach on Kakao Entertainment’s global platforms in the United States, China, and other markets around Asia next month.
Kakao Entertainment was founded in 2021 as the result of the merger between two Kakao subsidiaries, KakaoPage and Kakao M.
The former was established in 2010 as Podotree and changed its corporate name to KakaoPage in 2018. The latter was originally set up in 1978 as Seoul Records and renamed Kakao M in 2017.
