English band Shakatak taking issue with new title ‘Bubble Gum’
English jazz-funk band Shakatak has accused South Korea's Ador of copyright infringement in the new song ‘Bubble Gum’ of K-pop group NewJeans. Ador is the agency for the five-member girl group.
South Korean media outlets reported on July 18 that Shakatak’s representative had hired a law firm in South Korea last month to send a letter of claim.
Included in the recipients were known as Ador, Hybe, the Korea Music Copyright Association, and three others. Hybe is an umbrella company for Ador.
The letter alleged that ‘Bubble Gum’ is using components of the song ‘Easier Said Than Done’ of Shakatak, thus requesting the discontinued sale of the novel NewJeans song.
Ador reportedly responded that it did not believe ‘Bubble Gum’ unlawfully used Shakatak’s composition, asking for a credible analysis report.
In answer, the Shakatak’s side stated that it would provide it soon, according to the news reports.
NewJeans debuted midway through 2022 with the single ‘Attention.’ Thereafter, the girl group has attracted great popularity both at home and abroad.
It is composed of five members _ Minji, Haerin, Heyin, Hanni, and Danielle.
