Korean drama secures first international remake deal
One of the most popular Netflix dramas of the first half of the year, ‘Queen of Tears,’ has signed a deal for a Turkish remake, marking its first international adaptation.
Turkish media outlets reported on Oct. 21 that the country’s production companies O3 Medya and Dass Yapim would co-produce the Turkish version of Queen of Tears.
The two companies are currently in talks with top-tier Turkish actors to join the cast. Renowned director Başak Soysal is slated to take charge of the project.
Queen of Tears, originally produced by Studio Dragon, a subsidiary of CJ ENM, aired on tvN in March and April of this year. It achieved great success, ranking as the number one non-English TV series on Netflix.
The drama tells the story of a couple navigating a marital crisis and rekindling their love. It starred Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won in the lead roles.
Saner Ayar, CEO of O3 Medya, expressed his enthusiasm, stating that the work would resonate deeply with viewers.
This is not the first time a successful Korean drama has been adapted in Turkey.
Earlier this year, remake deals were signed for ‘Doctor Cha’ and ‘King the Land.’
