South Korea’s S-Oil announced on Nov. 19 that it has donated 200 million won ($140,000) to the Korea National Council on Social Welfare (KNCSW) to help energy-vulnerable households struggling with winter heating expenses.

The Seoul-based company said that the donation would be used to provide heating oil and financial support to groups identified as energy-poor.

Included in beneficiaries will be senior citizens living alone, single-parent families, persons with disabilities, multicultural families, and residents of homeless shelters, selected through social welfare institutions nationwide.

In a donation ceremony, S-OIL Director Seo Jeong-gyu delivered the contribution to KNCSW Chairman Kim Sung-yi.

A company representative expressed hope that the assistance would bring warmth and comfort to those facing economic hardship this winter.

“We hope our support helps neighbors in need spend the upcoming winter more safely and warmly. S-OIL will continue to pay attention to the challenges in our local communities and practice sharing on a consistent basis,” the spokesperson said.

S-OIL has been running its long-term social contribution initiative designed to offer heating oil for low-income households.

Over the past 10 years, the company has donated a total of 2.45 billion won ($1.7 million) through this program, continuing its efforts to alleviate energy poverty across the country.
